Fashionlab Career

Mixed ages

Level: Advanced

FashionLab Career is for the student who sees fashion as more than a hobby and wants to be in an environment with like-minded individuals who are looking to pursue the creative arts in further education.

Summer Term Project: "Strength in Femininity - Menswear Focus"

This term, we are going to research strong feminine visuals through art, media and history, and combine this with research into traditional menswear. We will create a final garment that integrates these potentially contrasting or complimentary themes.

Consider what does Femininity look like and mean to you? What is Menswear and what do YOU think about how and why fashion is gendered?

Expected outcomes:

- Research through moodboards and sketchbook design & exploration

- Samples experimenting with traditional tailoring & designing

- Final fashion illustration

- High quality constructed garment designed and made by you

- Photoshoot and styling

Become a stylist, an illustrator, and a model in our new Fashion Life Drawing course led by our Fashion Tutor and practising artist, Millie Gladwin. Bring along items from your wardrobe (either bought, collected, or made) and take turns styling, modelling, and drawing each other. We will practice and refine various illustration skills, how to achieve different textures and draped fabrics, and learn about perspective and proportional body drawing.

A large variety of equipment will be provided, pro-markers, watercolour paints, pastels, and collage supplies. The class will involve learning new skills and how to incorporate them into developing students’ own personal styles.

Leave each class with record of your own styled looks, great for accompanying any art and design studies and qualifications, and for displaying skills in students’ portfolios when applying to further art and design courses.
